It’s August, woe is me! Summer is coming to a close! Bring
out the jackets, unpack the sweaters, it’s time for Pumpkin flavored everything
and Ugg boots as far as the eye can see! Snow shovels front and center, it’s
time to dig! Now where did we pack those beanies again?
Alright, alright. Stop overreacting. It’s August, not
October. There is plenty of summer left to enjoy. The weather forecast is
predicting hot days with the welcome of slightly cooler nights. What more
perfection could we possibly demand than that?
We still have plenty of weekends to stroll through the
parks, take the boat out for a cruise, or visit that water park and pretend
we’re a bunch of ten year olds once more! I mean, picture it: swimsuit on, tube
properly inflated, yelling “weee!” as you race down the slides… It’s hard to be
Debbie Downer with a tube around your torso. But I digress.
All things considered, this summer has been quite lovely-
aside from June’s rainy temper-tantrums. Hanging out at the Myer Officers’ Club
swimming pools, the 4th of July Red, White & Cruise along the
Potomac River to watch the fireworks, and Twilight Tattoo. These are just a couple of events we’ve had
around Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. So what else can you squeeze in before
summer ends?
For starters, you could don your finest bib and “dive in”
to the O’ Club’s Shrimp and Crab fest every last Saturday of the month. What’s
more summery than a plate full of crab legs, Old Bay shrimp, and potato salad?
Pair that with a pitcher of beer to wash down the delicacies and you’ve got
yourself a tasty summer night! Not much of an outdoorsy person by chance? No
worries, no one has ever been sunburnt in a bowling alley- that’s a fact! So cool
your heels and bowl a hot game or two while those crazy sun-worshippers toast
their hides. If you prefer a more rhythmic show of skill, you can join us for
Stress Free Friday’s at Spates Community Club.
We party there every last Friday of the month from 6 top 9 pm.
See? There is still PLENTY of summer fun to be had! Old Man
Winter will just have to take a seat and let us revel in the remaining warmth
of our August days and nights. I can just feel the disappointment for all you
winter weather lovers who are chomping at the bit to clear sidewalks once more…
